How to find a Seattle DUI Attorney to hire

If you have been arrested for a DUI in the Seattle area, then chances are you will either be in the King County District Court for your DUI or the Seattle Municipal Court. Either way you will need to find a good DUI Attorney to defend you against the the DUI charge. If I were in this position this is how I would find a DUI Attorney from my perspective as a lawyer practicing in this area of law.

First you will want to find a DUI Lawyer who mostly practices in the jurisdiction where you have your case. So in my example you will want a lawyer who practices almost exclusively in King County. The reason you want a local DUI Attorney is because it will be a direct advantage for you.

Think about it. If a particular Attorney has most of their practice in a particular court. Then they will know everything about that Court. They will not only know the Prosecutors but have excellent relationships with them. They will know the Judges and how they rule on every single possible issue that can be raised in a DUI case. And they will know all the procedures and nuances of the Court.

So know that you know you want a DUI Lawyer who specifically practices in King County how do you find them. Well in my opinion referrals are always the best way. If you know a Prosecutor, a Judge, an Attorney ask them. Prosecutors are always the best source for a reference because they see all the DUI Attorneys in action. And they know the good ones from the bad ones. They know the ones that will just plead their client guilty to a DUI and the ones that will fight and get a good deal.

What if you don’t have anyone for a referral. Well the next best thing is to do some research. Either through google or lawyer referral services like Avvo.com for example. The downside to this is many DUI Lawyers you find in Seattle are going to look good on paper. This is where you will need to do your research.

In my opinion there are at least 5 questions you should ask every DUI Lawyer to find the best ones. I have included them in my website here. In no specific order here you go.

Do you exclusively practice in DUI defense?
How much experience do you have?
How many cases have you taken to trial, what were the results?
What are you fees?
How many DUI cases do you have?

Another question that is not on my website but is a good one to ask is what is your DUI success rate? In other words what percentage of your DUI cases get dismissed, reduced, or guilty as charged.

Those 5 or 6 questions should weed out the pretend Seattle DUI Lawyers from the good ones. And if you’re reading this blog and you have recently been arrested for a DUI in Seattle. Not all is lost. Hire a good DUI Attorney and do exactly what they say and you will be fine! Trust me.
